By combining the world's most efficient solar cell with custom
designed lenses and a unique self-powered two-axis tracking system,
we are able to provide more energy per watt of system installed
than traditional PV panels and do it at a substantial discount.
The Sunflower is scheduled to be available to commercial customers
in 2008.

12 Solar EnginesEach "stick" contains four solar engines, each containing a lens that focuses light onto a tiny piece of highly efficient PV material one eight-hundredth its size. Altitude TrackingEach "stick" contains its own high-quality motor that enables it to track the sun's elevation independently (altitude). Azimuth TrackingEach set of three "sticks" sits on a carousel whose motor tracks the sun in the horizontal direction (azimuth). Self PoweredEach unit contains a small panel of silicon PV cells that provide power to the tracker, enabling it to operate without grid electricity or batteries. Closed-loop TrackingCustom electronics allow the system to track without knowing the time or its location, enabling easy installation.
The Sunflower produces more energy over the course of the day than a traditional PV system of equal capacity.
This extra energy is particularly helpful in making a system more cost-effective, as the cost of utility-supplied electricity the system is
displacing during afternoon "peak" periods is often substantially more expensive than at other times of the day.
